GCSE Results 2020

We were delighted to see so many of our Year 11 in school in a socially distanced results event at Egglescliffe. It has been a long five months since we last saw them in school. However, anxious faces quickly turned to smiles of joy as students opened their GCSE results, with many students achieving top grades across a wide range of subjects.

After a year of many uncertainties, the Year 11 students have risen to the challenges they have faced. We are so proud of the resilience and determination they have shown over the last 6 months with lockdown, cancellation of exams and the confusion surrounding the awarding of grades. This culminated in many delighted students receiving excellent GCSE grades on Thursday 20th August. The majority of our students achieved or exceeded their predicted grades.

Most of our Year 11 students have enroled at Egglescliffe Sixth Form College and we will continue to see the journey they make as they embark upon their A-level courses. For those who are continuing their post-16 studies or apprenticeships elsewhere we wish them the best of luck for the future.

Egglescliffe students delighted as almost 550 top grades awarded

Anxious faces turned to smiles of joy as students opened their GCSE results at Egglescliffe School, with many students achieving top grades across a wide range of subjects. English and maths performed well once again, but this was also complimented by stunning performances in the Ebacc subjects-science and humanities- as well as PE, Music and a range of vocational courses.

An astounding total of 542 grade 9, 8 and 7s were achieved, with nine students achieving this level of success in all their subjects. Students at Egglescliffe achieved a total of 108 grade 9s (or equivalents) with thirty seven students being awarded at least one grade 9 and an incredible three students achieving over eight grade 9s. These top grades are reserved for only the very best performances nationally. Twelve subjects achieved over 30% pass rate at grade 9 to 7 or equivalent. This reflects the school’s ethos of delivering a broad and balanced curriculum in which students of all abilities can achieve in a wide range of subjects. A fantastic 80% of students secured at least a grade 4 in both English and Maths, equivalent to grade C GCSE, with 84% of all grades being a grade 4 or higher.

“I am incredibly pleased with the results of all of our students, but not surprised, as I have been in the privileged position to watch them work so hard and develop over their time here. Students come to us from a range of backgrounds and we develop their character, skills, knowledge and understanding through a vast range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities and this inspires them to achieve. These results are testimony to the hard work and commitment of students and staff as well as support from parents/carers.” said Headteacher Simon White,

“Egglescliffe School has a reputation of being an ambitious and supportive school and we work hard to ensure every young person realises their potential. I’m pleased to say that the majority of students have chosen to stay with us in Sixth Form following our highly successful A-level results and I wish all of our students the best for their future and that they fulfil their ambitions.”
