Egglescliffe School Celebrates Outstanding GCSE Results

Egglescliffe School is thrilled to announce the exceptional performance of our students in the 2024 GCSE examinations. This year’s results reflect the hard work, dedication, and resilience of both students and staff, making yet another year of academic excellence.

Headline Results:

  • 29% of all grades achieved were 9-7
  • 65% of all grades achieved were Grade 4-9
  • 80% of students achieved a pass in English and Maths
  • 59% of students achieved a strong pass (grade 5 or higher) in English and Maths

Our top-performing students have set a new benchmark, with students achieving an impressive 150 grade 9s. These results are a testament to their exceptional abilities and the high standard of teaching and support provided by our dedicated staff.

We are thrilled to announce yet another year of remarkable success in both GCSE and vocational qualifications for our Year 11 students at Egglescliffe School.

With 87% of all qualifications being a grade 4 or higher we continue to be committed to delivering a high-quality education that empowers our students to excel. We have achieved an unbelievable total of 156 grade 9s or equivalent, a third of all grades are a grade 7 or higher and 89% achieved a grade 4 or higher in both English and maths; simply outstanding results as we return to rigorous pre-pandemic standards.

Executive Head Teacher Mrs L. Oyston said “We are immensely proud of the outstanding achievements of our students. Our Year 11 students are talented and determined young people who have overcome the challenges that Covid-19 brought to the foundations of their secondary education. These grades reflect the hard work of our students, the incredible care and guidance of our teaching and support staff as well as the unwavering support of our parents/carers and Governors, which plays a crucial role in our students’ achievements. Many of our Year 11 students are enrolling at Egglescliffe Sixth Form and will continue their educational journey with us. For those students who have secured apprenticeships or are continuing their post-16 studies elsewhere we wish them the best of luck for the future.”

After two years of many uncertainties the Year 11 students have risen to the challenges they have faced. Today we saw our delighted students receive excellent grades with the majority achieving or exceeding their predicted grades. Overall 88% of students secured a Grade 4 in both English and maths, with almost 750 grade 7-9s across the curriculum and an amazing 225 top grade 9s.

Headteacher Mrs L. Oyston said ‘The resilience that our students have shown throughout the last two years has been remarkable. We must never underestimate the many challenges this cohort has faced whilst completing their KS4 courses during a pandemic. Our Year 11 students are exceptional, inspiring and talented young people and we could not be prouder of them.

I would like to thank the students, staff, parents/carers and governors for what has been an incredible team effort over the two years of hard work, determination and preparation for these truly outstanding outcomes.’

Anxious faces turned to smiles of joy as students opened their GCSE and vocational results at Egglescliffe School, with many students achieving top grades across a wide range of subjects. We were delighted to see so many of our Year 11 in school today to collect their results and celebrating their success with their friends and family.

After a year of many uncertainties the Year 11 students have risen to the challenges they have faced. Our students have shown tremendous resilience and determination over the last 16 months with lockdowns, periods of self-isolation and the cancellation of exams. Nevertheless, today we saw our delighted students receive excellent grades with the majority achieving or exceeding their predicted grades.

In total we had 708 grade 7-9s and an amazing 174 grade 9s awarded. We had many individual successes including:
