BEFORE SCHOOL
Many of our students arrive on site prior to the official start of the school day to take part in a wide range of enrichment activities in the PE and Music departments. We encourage all of our students to get involved with the various clubs, activities and projects that take place before, during and after school to enrich their educational experience.
REGISTRATION
All students will register with their form tutor from 8.45 until 9.05. In this time they will be involved in developing a wide range of valuable educational experiences such as collective worship in assembly, developing literacy skills, contributing to class discussions and reading programme.
LESSONS
Pupils move around the school site to their lessons. Therefore, they will need to quickly become familiar with the site and become skilled in organisation to ensure they have the correct equipment on the right days. Lessons last for one hour and all students will be actively learning; consequently, they must come to school prepared to be engaged and committed to learning to maximize the progress they make.
LUNCHTIME ARRANGEMENTS
Egglescliffe School offers a high-quality catering service. We employ our own catering staff and we have invested heavily to ensure that we deliver the best catering service for our students. The food is all prepared on the premises, using local suppliers. Menus are varied and in line with the government’s drive on healthy eating.
We operate a cashless payment system for school meals. Every pupil has an account into which parents can pay by using Arbor.
A biometric system reads each pupil’s thumbprint at the till points. This is a secure system which speeds up queues at the tills.
The food we serve is healthy and excellent value. Pupils can purchase a two course hot meal for £2.80 which consists of a main course and soup or pudding. A range of snacks and light meals are available together with Meal Deals which pupils can pre-order at break time. All drinks are school compliant and fizzy drinks have fruit in and not just a ‘fizzy drink’, drinking water is available, at no cost, in the main dining room. Consequently pupils do not need to go out of school at lunch time. Pupils may bring a packed lunch and these are eaten in the supervised dining areas.
LUNCHTIME AND AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT
A large number of our students are involved in a wide range of enrichment activities at lunchtime and after school. Sport, drama, music, charity events, revision classes and so on all take place so although the school day officially finishes at 3.15, the school site is exceptionally busy until 5pm.
